We spent 2 weeks of our Europe trip in Italy and our last stop there was Venice, and I have to say it was a total dream. We only stayed there two nights- everyone we had spoken to said it was great, but two nights was enough. I mean, how long is a piece of string- I felt like I could have spent a lifetime wandering the small romantic streets and around the canals, but we had a lot of Europe to see!
DRINK- Aperol Spritz! This refreshing cocktail is served all over Italy (and lots of Europe) as an aperitif- a pre-dinner drink meant to get the appetite flowing! It’s not sickly sweet like a lot of cocktails, and definitely hit the spot on those hot Italian days and nights we had! As you can see I picked one up to enjoy while we strolled around St Mark’s Square! 😉
DO- Wander the streets of Venice. As the saying goes, you can’t get lost as it’s an island! The best part of Venice is free- grab your other half or travel bestie and discover the hidden alley’s, tiny shops and history of this beautiful historic town.
BUY- Jewellery (especially the local blown glass), leather goods and souvenirs (they’re pretty reasonably priced compared to other cities).
VISIT- Florian’s, the oldest cafe in the world. This was the absolute highlight of our trip to Venice. Located in St Mark’s Square, we sat down for a drink at this charming restaurant as they had a small orchestra/band playing romantic music. Initially a little miffed at the 6 euro pp fee for the band, we ended up staying 3 hours. There was something incredibly romantic and old world about sipping a cocktail and watching the world go by in Venice while being serenaded by a violin. Molto Romantico<3
