#RealTalk- Living your best life- what it means to me

You might have seen the term ‘living my best life’ around lately. You might have seen it hashtagged, or captioned on someone’s photo of them at the beach, or even just a cat laying in the sun #livingherbestlife. I’ve seen this term around for a while, and just thought ‘Oh yes, that lady is enjoying that glass of expensive champagne, she is certainly living her best life.’ Then one day I asked myself out of the blue ‘Am I living my best life? What does this even mean to me?’ This made me think about my life, about the blessings, about the hard work, about the best bits and the annoying bits. It made me think about myself, and how I want to live my life. Yes, a hashtag made me think all of this- I am an overthinker. 😛

But in all seriousness, thinking about how I want to live my best life made me think about the little things I can do every day (not just on vacation or when I’m drinking Moet) to achieve this:

Look my best self

You might think this is shallow, but I’m starting with one of the things that although is based on looks, is still important to me achieving my best life. Let me explain. When my hair is styled, my makeup is done, I’m wearing a gorgeous outfit I feel fab in, I literally feel like I have my life together and I can face the world and be my best. I am more confident, I am more comfortable, I am literally able to achieve more because I feel like I am dressed for the part.

Feel my best self

This is related to ‘looking my best’, but not completely- to me exercise isn’t just about working out to look good, but it’s about feeling proud of yourself for achieving something, and feeling strong, like you can do anything. When I work out, and I’m drenched in sweat, panting, praying that the 7 minute timer on my BBG workout will go off, I feel like I can do anything, and this then infiltrates the rest of my life- my other every day habits, my diet, my career, etc.

Be my best self

I will admit it- I can get really self-obsessed. I can get totally caught up in my own feelings that I think are so justified at the time, that I can’t see the bigger picture. I can feel sad, that life is unfair, feel hard done by. These are all selfish, negative feelings that achieve nothing, zip, nada. I am trying to remind myself when I feel like this, to do something for someone else. Do the dishes so hubby doesn’t have to, vacuum the floor, bake a cake for a friend, call your grandma, go on Instagram and put a kind honest comment on someone’s photo. Doing something so small for someone else can help to snap me out of my ‘me cloud’, which makes me feel better anyway!

Live in the moment

Life is a funny thing. When I’m too busy rushing out and about, I wish I was relaxing at home. When I’m at home, I feel like I’m wasting my time and should go out. Stupid, right? Tell me I can’t be the only one who thinks this way! I have been trying to make a conscious effort to appreciate the moment, otherwise I’m never going to feel at peace and life my best life! When I’m rushing around seeing people, going out, or running errands, I try to think- this is so great, I love meeting my friends and family, getting out in the thick of things and trying new things. When I’m at home netflixing, I try to think, yes this is relaxing, enjoy it- don’t feel guilty! You deserve this and it’s a waste to feel guilty. Either relax and enjoy it or get up and do something! I don’t know if it’s social media or the internet or whatever, but I think living in the moment is definitely one of the hardest things to do!

So these are my reflections on #livingyourbestlife! I’m not an expert or a life coach, but I do think life is a constant journey, and if you try to learn and self-improve, you’re just going to make your life better. What do you guys think about #livingyourbestlife? How do you feel you achieve this? I would love to know!

  1. I love this post!! The dress is gorgeous (#livingyourbestbloggerlife?), but I absolutely love all your reflections! Dressing the part is important, working out is important, but giving of yourself to others and being present are truly invaluable. I loved reading this one, Madeleine!
